A naturalist and artist, Audubon traveled extensively throughout the U.S. during the early 1800s, endeavoring to document every indigenous bird species. This task culminated in 1827 with the publication of hisĀ Birds of America. Audubon's hand-colored illustrations were rendered through etching, engraving, and aquatint print processes.
